QCI Days

Quantum computing is moving from the lab to the market, and the companies that get there first won't just have better algorithms, they'll have better IP strategies.
​Join us for an online session with IP experts who work at the intersection of quantum and law, unpacking what actually protects quantum software innovation, and how patents, trade secrets and open source licensing can work together.

​Note: This is Part 1 of 2 workshops. Think of this as the foundation, and following the in-person workshop (date to be announced) will go deeper into use cases.

​What to expect
​A practical understanding of how IP protection actually works for quantum algorithms and software, the misconceptions, real examples of patented quantum inventions & how open source licensing and business models are playing out in the quantum ecosystem.

​Plus, a framework for combining all of this into one solid IP strategy, and a group discussion on building a successful layered IP strategy.

The Next Computational Toolkit: Quantum Computing for Chemistry, Pharma and Material Science

Photonics, nanotechnology and quantum technology are moving from the laboratory into application. What that shift means for research, for education and for the companies involved is the subject of the FONQT Symposium on Thursday 8 October 2026. This year Fontys University of Applied Sciences hosts the event, in Eindhoven.
The symposium brings together researchers, lecturers, students and industry partners from the five universities of applied sciences in the FONQT platform and from the companies and institutes they work with.
The programme includes:

Keynote by Prof. Dr Esther Alarcon Llado, head of the 3D Solar Cells Group at Amolf, on research challenges for physics in the Netherlands
Keynote by Robert van Veldhoven, NXP, on collaboration with universities of applied sciences
A poster session with lunch, showing work from students of the participating research groups
Parallel sessions on the Eindhoven Talent and Learning Centre, on student teams in education, on the Einstein Telescope project and on the SFEER project
A tour of the Fontys laboratories
A plenary panel on how Talent and Learning Centres shorten the route from research results to learning experiences

Who is it for?
Professionals working in industry, public institutions and knowledge organisations. Among them researchers and lecturers in physics, electrical engineering, materials science and nanotechnology, engineers working on optical systems, semiconductors, quantum computing and nanotechnology, master’s students and PhD candidates, companies and start-ups in high tech, and policymakers working on innovation.

FONQT Symposium at Fontys

The third edition of the Technical Quantum Sensing Event will take place on 14 October at De Doelen, Rotterdam, from 09:30 to 16:30.

The one-day event brings together the quantum sensing ecosystem, including researchers, companies, and government representatives, for a day full of insight, connection and inspiration.
 
The programme offers a mix of perspectives:

- A presentation from the European Commission on the broader vision and strategy for quantum sensing in Europe

- An industry perspective on the real-world deployment of quantum sensors, presented by one of the companies active in our ecosystem

- The latest results from leading labs, alongside a look at ambitious, forward-looking projects shaping the future of the field
 
Throughout the day, there will be plenty of room to connect. Posters and booths will feature researchers, companies, and other organisations sharing their work in the field. The day will close with a networking borrel.
