Pre-announcement: second call for scientific quantum technology research
QDNL launches the second call for scientific quantum research in collaboration with NWO. The call is expected to open in early February 2023 and implements the action line ‘Research and Innovation’ of the QDNL programme. The allocations from the first round were announced in December 2022.
The call will be almost identical to the 2022 call, including the aim to encourage young talent in quantum technology by allowing newly promoted researchers to apply for a personal research budget. This was successful in the first round with four allocations to newly promoted researchers out of a total of 16 grants).
In addition, researchers from universities of applied sciences and researchers with zero-hours contracts at universities may apply.
“The latter element is new and is intended for researchers who, for example, are employed by TNO or a company, regularly spend time at the university, but are contractually bound to a zero-hours agreement. we are curious to see how this option will work out”
10.4 million euros
In this second round, 10.4 million EUR is available. As in all National Growth Fund programmes, NWO applies the integral cost system, meaning the full cost of the personnel to be appointed is reimbursed. Researchers can submit applications for projects for one PhD student or one postdoc position completed by December 2028 at the latest. For efficiency reasons, the 2023 and 2024 calls have been merged into one round. Thus, there will be no call in 2024.
The aim of NWO and QDNL is to realise much-needed scientific and technological breakthroughs in the field of quantum technology. In total, QDNL has earmarked 42 million euros for the Action Line ‘research and innovation’, over a duration of seven years. The aim is to consolidate and strengthen the scientific base of quantum technology.
